How do I choose a pocket square?
There's no particular rule when it comes to choosing a pocket square. It should simply complement your shirt and tie (not match them). However, when dressing for a black-tie event, you should wear a classic white pocket square. For any other occasions, you could pick out a secondary colour from your shirt or tie, and a choose a pocket square that includes this as the primary colour.
What is a pocket square?
A pocket square is a small, decorative piece of fabric, often made of silk, linen or cotton, that is folded and placed in the breast pocket of a suit jacket or blazer. It serves as an elegant and stylish accessory, adding a touch of sophistication and flair to a gentleman's formal or semi-formal attire.
How to fold a pocket square?
To fold a pocket square, start by laying it flat on a clean surface. Then, follow one of several popular folding methods, such as the classic square fold, one-point fold or puff fold, to achieve the desired look. Once you've finished, gently place it into the breast pocket of your suit jacket or blazer, adjusting as needed for a polished and stylish finishing touch.
Should a pocket square match your tie?
A pocket square shouldn't perfectly match a tie. Instead, consider the rest of your outfit (including the tie) and then choose a pocket square which echoes a colour in your tie, shirt or jacket.
